2013_MSUWBB_KluthHenryLoyleThere may be a polar vortex whirling across the United States. However, at the Panzer Athletic Center, the Montclair State Women’s Basketball Team continues to puncture heat into their opponents. Last year these ladies’ won their first New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship in almost two decades! They performed this feat with a perfect 27-0 record. This season they remain undefeated in the Conference, they have compiled a pair of six-game win streaks, sandwiched with one loss! This evening’s podcast features the elder statesman of the Red Hawks: Nicosia Henry, Sarah Kluth, & Alanna Loyle.

Last season, Head Coach Karin Harvey told me Nicosia Henry was considered a defensive demon. After the season, this was evidenced when Henry (5’10”) earned the Conference Defensive player-of-the year. Nicky ignites the frontcourt press which exacerbates opponents attempting to advance the ball from their backcourt to forecourt. However, don’t underestimate ‘Nifty-Nicki’s’ offensive drive to the glass, as she is among the team leaders in offense categories.

Since Henry is ensconced as the defensive demon, two players who come off the bench-Sarah Kluth & Alanna Loyle prove as worthy accomplices. Last year on our podcast, All-American- Melissa Tobie mentioned Kluth & Loyle made a difference in providing veteran leadership to the team. Kluth, the vocal 5-7 guard, was described by her coaching staff as relentless competitor; fearless; the spark plug; & someone who will dive into the stands to save the ball to maintain possession of the ‘rock’. Alanna Loyle, a 5-11, guard, was described as one the best pure shooters on the team. Alanna will can slash a 3-pointer before you can blink & is an excellent guide for underclassmen.
